Nicole Beier, social studies teacher, and prom adviser have been working hard on trying to make prom this year. But as of right now she doesn’t know what things are going to exactly look like.

The prom committee and she have discussed a few different options that have been presented to the principals but nothing is set and likely won’t be at least for at least another month or so.

“We had everything done and we are planning to use the decorations from

last year’s prom, with the exception of one or two of the decorations,” she said.

For the tickets, she said that when the week was canceled, they are going to start selling tickets and everything was paid for. Even though both the prom committee and her don’t know what things are going to look like, their number one rule is for everyone to wear a mask at all times at prom.

The principal and she have two concerns about this year’s prom. Their first concern is safety from COVID – 19.

Beier said, “The prom committee worked so hard last year to build all these decorations and if there isn’t a prom this year again because of another COVID-19 outbreak or other unknowns, then the seniors will leave high school not having had a prom.”

The principles and she are also speaking with one about prom on a weekly basis, they want students to know that prom is definitely on their minds.

Emma Dockter, a junior at South, said that she’s most excited about the actual dance and post-prom. She said, ” I’m worried we won’t get to have everything we would normally get,” like a grand march, the dance, and post-prom.

PTSA is currently are in the planning process and is uncertain if there will be able to be a post-prom, but they are hopeful that they can move forward with it. Post-prom would be held at the NDSU Union starting at midnight after the dance.

There would be games, prizes and lots of other fun. From COVID-19 regulations PTSA is unsure if there will be food but they said that they can have snacks. Prizes could include cash, TVs, earbuds, and lots of other things, so look out for announcements and the PTSA Facebook page for updates.
