Disney World’s 50th Anniversary, with Some Limitations

Sarah Wahl, Staff Writer

Disney World in Orlando, Florida, is a  popular attraction for various ages. During COVID-19, Disney has been taking extra initiatives to keep workers and guests safe.

Currently in Disney World, guests are required to wear a mask at all times unless told to take it off for a certain ride. These certain rides would include any of the water rides as this would be unsafe to wear one if fully submerged. They have also hired certain workers to walk around all of the theme parks to ensure social distancing and proper mask-wearing.

The “Disney Experience” was different than my past visits to this park before COVID-19. I feel like it was a little harder to have as much fun as it used to be. Some rides were closed and some rides had a longer wait than normal because of certain COVID-19 restrictions and not being able to fully pack groups into the ride. You also are not able to eat or drink unless you are in a designated area and are stationed (not walking around).

In my opinion, Disney should have designated places to sit down as now you will have to sit on the side of a walkway or on a curb to eat or drink making it pretty much still exposing you to everyone walking by, making it useless. Since this was a big problem to many guests, people would just ignore the rules and keep walking. This restriction should be rethought of and find some better solutions.

Disney World itself had reported a loss of 6.9 billion during their closure in 2020. Since they have opened, they have gained back many of their guests, but are still not at the capacity that they used to have everyday. Disneyland in California still remains closed to this day as California has more expansive restrictions and is making it almost impossible to open at this time.
