‘Squid Game’ Lives Up to Hype
October 14, 2021
“Squid Game,” a South Korean Netflix original series, started to become popular at the end of September and the beginning of October. Since exploding last month, Netflix claims that it is the most viewed series, with over 111 million streams.
It’s also been on Netflix Top 10 list of shows to watch since it came out. Not only is it popular on Netflix but is also a popular TikTok trend. There is one specific game people take part in called Dalgona. They try to carve out different shapes from hardened sugar. On TikTok there are over 44.3 billion views of #squidgame, and the show is still trending.
The main character of the show is Gi-hun. He was in desperate need of money, and he ends up taking part in the games. The game consists of 456 players. Each player is in debt. After each game that is played, money is added into a huge piggy bank. The total money earned at the very end of the game is $45.6 billion. Each game that is played is from their childhood. Going into the game no one knew that if they were to lose or mess up they are killed instantly. Only one person can win the prize money.
The show is action filled and intense. After each episode it left a cliffhanger, making you want to continue watching. The series overall was interesting. There were many plot twists that built up suspense. I liked how almost all of the episodes involved a game. It helped move the story forward.
There were some parts in the show that I thought were pointless because it didn’t follow the storyline. Besides those small criticisms, I would recommend this to anyone that enjoys gore and can stand the sight of blood. “Squid Game” lives up to the hype.
