Earth Day: Flowers, Flowers and More Flowers

This Earth Day, students were crowding around the Environmental Club’s table in the commons, trying to get their pick of a cute little flower to plant in a recycled container. Ms. Grugel and Mrs. Woodbury run the Environmental Club at South High. This was their first year running the club and they did not disappoint.

The teachers wanted to do something special for Earth Day, and recycling and reusing containers to plant flowers was their idea. They set up the table during first period and had run out of flowers before lunch.

The purpose of this project was to show students how to help the environment by reusing and recycling items. There were other items on display such as reusable shopping bags, cloth instead of paper towels, and using reusable cups.

All in all, it was a fun day for the club and students and the club leader has hinted at doing the same thing but better next year.
