The coming-of-age movie, Perks of Being a Wallflower, is one of my favorite coming-of-age movies. It is bittersweet, comforting, heart-warming, and sad. The movie is about a teenage boy named Charlie who is socially awkward and gets picked on. Charlie just started high school and is struggling to fit in and find himself. He ends up becoming friends with two seniors, Sam and Patrick, who he ends up becoming really close with. Charlie has same up and downs throughout the movie constantly reliving his trauma revolving around his aunt Helen, but his friends help him feel better and find himself through his hardships. This movie is relatable and touched with reality, focusing in on situations that teens may be dealing with. The movie conveys a message that people can open up when they’re accepted for who they really are.
