Key Club is a student-led organization that is all about empowering and teaching leadership to youth. It is a global organization that serves thousands of schools in 45 countries and is still growing. This year, many students have attended Key Club at South High, which is organized by advisor Courtney Johnson. Students who join Key Club are encouraged to learn more about the purpose of the club and what it provides. Members who are in Key Club perform many acts of service to the community such as organizing food drives, collecting donations, and cleaning public areas. They also learn different skills such as planning projects and leading meetings. At South High, members of Key Club have made cards that were provided to the local children’s hospital. Members also have the chance to vote and elect others among them for different leadership positions in Key Club. These positions including president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, editor, and webmaster.
Although Key Club serves the local community, there are many benefits that it can provide to members, such as grants and scholarships. Another way that this organization can benefit members is through the values that it teaches students. As members serve the community, they build good character, which involves acts of kindness, integrity, and most importantly, teamwork. Many students also develop the value of compassion which impacts their service. Therefore, Key Club is a very helpful organization that has benefitted many students and communities alike.
