South High School sophomore Lilly Held, known professionally as Lilly Danielle, has made a name for herself in the music industry as a singer and songwriter. She answered some questions about her work in an interview with the Sudhian.
What is your background and experience with music?
“I’m from Fargo North Dakota! I spend a lot of time in the summer in Harvey, North Dakota, where my mom grew up. My entire family has been big on music; my aunt plays the piano and she is the one who made me want to start learning. I started taking piano lessons at 4 years old and I eventually started playing guitar at 10.”
What do you do outside of music?
“Music is my main passion, but I also manage the wrestling team for South. Also, I love to hangout with my best friend Ava Grams.”
Managing the wrestling team must be fun! Who’s your inspiration?
“My inspiration is my momma. She’s the strongest and most independent person I know. She has always helped me chase my dreams and never fails to make me smile even when I’m down.”
Who do you work with to develop and enhance your beautiful voice?
“I work with multiple people actually! I take voice lessons with Hannah Overbey and Mrs. Lichtblau. They have both helped me expand my voice along with teaching me how to keep it healthy. The voice is an instrument and taking voice lessons is the best way to improve.”
I’m curious about organizing or booking gigs. How do you organize and book performances?
“Becoming a musician takes a lot of strength and determination. Staying organized is definitely important to ensure you don’t over-perform. Booking gigs is one of the easiest parts; I usually send emails to different companies around North Dakota.”
