“Saviors” is American pop-punk band Green Day’s 14th studio album, and it was released on January 19th, 2024. The band is back doing what they do best: delivering tongue-in-cheek lyrics that comment on the modern issues of society. The trio’s new album tackles current political issues as well as current life in America. The overall sound of the album is very reminiscent of the band’s 90s and early 2000s works. The band seems to be taking a new direction sound-wise while still maintaining the values they’ve always had.
The album is a mix of many different sounds and inspirations. It has punchy pop-punk anthems meant to be sung in a stadium, such as “The American Dream Is Killing Me,” but it also has slower, more emotional numbers like “Goodnight Adeline.” This is the California-based band’s first album in nearly four years. With the demand for a new album from the band, expectations were high. Within the first week of its release, “Saviors” has received much praise from critics and fans alike. The new direction Green Day appears to be taking has been met with much positive feedback, with lots of people appreciating the band’s revamped sound. My personal favorites off of “Saviors” are “The American Dream Is Killing Me”, “Dilemma”, and “Look Ma, No Brains!”. Green Day will be embarking on a North American tour this summer to promote “Saviors”, with openers The Smashing Pumpkins and Rancid.
