What subject are you going to school to teach, and why?
“I am going to teach English Language Arts. I always knew I wanted to be a teacher, but between my junior and senior years of high school, I began to love the books and activities we were doing in my English classes, so I changed my mind from Elementary or History education to English education.”
Is going to school to become a teacher difficult?
“The answer to this question honestly depends on my mood. I have always loved school and always wanted to learn, so I never struggled with my classes, but I know that not everyone can say the same. MSUM has wonderful professors and an amazing program, which made it easier for me. Currently, I am completing a portfolio that requires me to examine my teaching, as well as what I have learned, which has not been easy, but I don’t think it’s fair to say that this one task makes it difficult. Every major or career branch has challenges, and you just have to work with the resources you have to overcome the difficulties.”
Where do you hope to get a teaching job after you graduate, why?
“While there are not many job openings for the 2024-2025 school year posted yet, I hope to stay in the Fargo-Moorhead area. My family and friends live in the area, so I plan on sticking around at least for a few more years. ”
Would you rather live in the same house for your whole life or live in a different house every day?
“I would rather live in the same house for my whole life. I’m sentimental and would rather have a million memories from one house, than a single memory from a million houses.”
What was your favorite class that you have taken in college that wasn’t related to your major?
“I took a film class in my first semester where we reviewed movies. It was pretty great.”
What is your favorite hobby and why?
“I can’t choose just one hobby, so I’ll give you the highlight reel instead. I love reading (obviously, I’m an English major) and my favorite books are The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Verity. I also love spending time with my family, friends, and cat, Pipsqueak. When I can, I love to travel. I just got back from a trip to Mexico, but my favorite places I have been to are London, Paris, and the Black Hills. Lastly, I love summer and being at the lake, rollerblading, riding a bike, and sitting around a bonfire with everyone I love.”
