Knowledge Bowl is an after-school activity that takes place in room D32 for practice competitions on Mondays and Wednesdays. In Knowledge Bowl practice competitions, the group splits into three teams and plays trivia similar to TV shows like Jeopardy or Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. Run by Mr. Smithmeyer and Mr. Zosel, questions are read aloud before teams buzz in as quickly as possible to answer the question. Questions come from many different categories, including sports, politics, books and TV, music, history, geography, and more. The team at the end of the practice competition with the most points gets 1st place.
Of course, practice competitions are only practice for the “meets,” of which South High junior Lena Nielsen says she has attended all. “Yeah, I’m good enough [at Knowledge Bowl] to be an alternate for EDC,” wrote Nielsen. “My favorite part about Knowledge Bowl,” Nielsen said, “is going to Pizza Ranch after competitions.” Lettering in this activity is quite simple – just show up to one practice a week and attend the meets, and all is well in the lettering department. Beyond that, Knowledge Bowl is a fun and exhilarating activity for the proud know-it-alls.
