On March 15th, I had the opportunity to attend Olivia Rodrigo’s GUTS tour at the Xcel Energy Center in Minneapolis. The high-energy audience didn’t counteract the authentic and genuine moments throughout Olivia’s performance, making the show truly memorable. The first thing I noticed was the interactivity between Olivia and her audience. Olivia consistently engaged with the crowd, whether it was through singalongs or small talk. Her genuine personality shined through her interactions and it was easy to see why fans love her so much. At the very end of the show, Olivia walked alongside the barricade, greeting fans, signing autographs and accepting bracelets and letters. 

Another thing that stood out to me was how personal and relatable all of her songs were. Her songs contain the theme of teenage angst; they are all about getting through difficult situations such as breakups, feeling out of place, or not fitting in socially. Olivia performed these difficult songs with such passion, emotion and energy that it was hard to not sing along or not get caught up in the moment every second I was there.

Another highlight of the show was the props and outfits that Olivia used. Her outfits were glittery, sparkly and cute, while the props she used were unique and on-brand, such as using a megaphone to sing her last song on the setlist. She also floated around on a giant moon while a bunch of stars hung around the entire stadium. Olivia even had a screaming contest with the crowd for fans to yell as loud as they possibly could. This added just another level of interactivity to the performance. Olivia’s merchandise, although not part of the performance itself, was of such high quality and clearly thought out with a variety of options and unique items for sale, examples of these items being an Italian charm bracelet and a well-sized purple butterfly tote. 

All in all, Olivia’s performance was an incredible experience. It was high energy, but also incredibly genuine and relatable. Every aspect of the show, from the merch to the confetti and fun props was extremely deliberate and fun. The GUTS World Tour is a must-see for any Olivia Rodrigo fan!
