Boy’s Soccer: The Bruins are having a promising season so far. With a 5-4-3 record, they are on track to go to state this year. However, they have the Red River Roughriders right behind them with a 5-3-4 record. With only two games left and the Roughriders a game ahead, They need to win the rest to push past them. Unfourtantly, the last two games are against the top two teams in the conference, Davies and West Fargo.
This situation reflects the melancholic end of last season, where they lost the last game of the season to the Roughriders, which put the Roughriders in state and kicked the Bruins out. However, the Bruins are still quite optimistic that they can finish out the season strong. If so, it will be the Bruin’s first state visit since 2019.
The Bruins’ only obstacle this season has been themselves. For instance, they lost a must-win game against North to stay ahead of the Roughriders, which allowed the Roughriders to charge ahead. The loss was caused by two reckless plays that allowed North to score twice and easily win. This leaves the Bruins with a slim chance into making it to state. Thankfully, there still is a chance, and no matter how slim that chance might be, the Bruins are striving for excellence everyday and are planning to beat the odds. Go Bruins!
Football: The Bruins have had a rough start to the season. Before the homecoming, they were 0-4. They have, however, showed some promise with close battles with both Bismarck St. Mary’s and Valley City, losing on the last play against St. Mary’s. With the homecoming game being against the Red River Roughriders on Sept. 27, the Bruins had a challenging 4 quarters. Before the homecoming game, the Roughriders have shown themselves to be a quite formidable team with a dominant 4-0 record so far this year. The Bruins record so far this year and the Roughriders’ dominance over their opponents led many to have low expectations for Bruins to succeed in the Homecoming game.
Unfortunately, the low expectations were proven to be justified. The Bruins were defeated by the Roughriders 3-51. Nevertheless, Bruins on and off the field should exhibit the mindset of NFL Hall of Famer, “Papa Bear” George Halas, who famously said “Nobody who ever gave his best regretted it.” Go Bruins!
