Mrs. Dunn is a teacher in the science wing, teaching a variety of subjects. She teaches chemistry, biology and AP biology. This is her 5th year at South High School and her 5th year of teaching overall.
How did you decide this job
After I graduated from NDSU, I knew I wanted to live in the Fargo area. I received a few job offers, but South was my top choice because it was in Fargo and because I was offered to teach some of my favorite subjects.
What do you wish students knew
I wish that students knew just how much their teachers care about them. We care about the students as learners, but also as people, and we want to see students succeed.
Surprise fact about you
In my free time I like to refurbish damaged furniture.
Why do you think science is important
Without science we would have very little understanding of the world around us. Scientists are problem-solvers, and without science our lives would look very different than they currently do.
How has teaching changed you
Teaching has caused me to love the subject of science even more than I already did, and to become more passionate about educating the next generation than I already was. I often think to myself, ‘I’ve definitely chosen the right career.”
Favorite unit or part about teaching
My favorite part about teaching is seeing those moments where the content and skills “click” for students. It is so fun to witness students learning new information and skills that they feel excited about.
