History Club is a fun, learning-based club ran by the one and only Mr. Hackey. It’s open to any student throughout the year, and meetings are every other Thursday. Because this club is very laid-back, if a few meetings conflict with a student’s schedule, they don’t need to feel any pressure; this club is just a gathering for fun history learning of atypical topics. Its own history is that this club was established in 2016, and that Mr. Hackey originally co-ran it with another history teacher.
Because Mr. Hackey designates the club funds to whatever the students choose to learn about/with, the club ends up with some very exciting activities. A few examples of past projects and discussions include hands-on arts and crafts, LEGO builds of historical buildings, quiz games, watching educational movies, and philosophical conversations rooted in old-timey events, such as discussing what would happen if Napoleon hadn’t lost the Battle of Waterloo. Mr. Hackey noted that the conversation is driven by the member demographic; currently, a lot of the discussions revolve around battles and themes of the military.
As a whole, Fargo South’s History Club is one of those clubs where “you can make the best of it”; because it is student-led, “what you put in is what you get out of it.” It’s a very versatile club with a variety of enjoyable activities.
