Most high schoolers go to sporting events to cheer on their teams, but for Lilly Held, attending a state wrestling match turned into a pivotal moment for her singing career. Lilly Held is a junior at Fargo South and is also a manager for the boys’ wrestling team. A video of her singing the National Anthem at the event back in February went viral on TikTok, gaining over a million views and more than 250,000 likes. I had a chance to speak with Lilly and asked her some questions about going viral.
What has been the most exciting or surprising part of your video going viral?
“The amount of attention my name has gotten in-state and out of state. It was amazing to see so many people enjoy my video from across the country.”
What was your reaction to your video blowing up?
“I was shocked for the first few weeks when my video was first getting attention. I honestly never really saw myself getting attention on the Internet like that.”
Have you received any exciting messages or opportunities because of this?
“I’ve gotten so many opportunities since that video! I was in The Forum and was recently on North Dakota Today.”
Now that so many people have heard your voice, what’s next for you in music and with your singing career?
“The next step I’m taking is releasing my EP that will include around five or six songs. I will also be releasing Tunnels very, very soon to preview my EP!”
The best thing to come from this is the fact that Lilly isn’t stopping here. She’s already planning her next big move. With her amazing voice, talent, and hard work, it’s clear that this viral moment is only the beginning for Lilly’s career.
