National History Day is a project-based competition allowing students to learn about the past. Each year, there is a new topic to base a project in. This year, this theme was Rights and Responsibilities. Students compete against one another with projects involving one of these five categories: documentary, paper, exhibit, performance, or website. The State-Qualifying Competition occurred on March 5th at NDSU.
Evelyn Kvistad, Eloise Heinle, Isabela Graves, Thomas Hudson, Alessa McBeian, and Morgan Savre are all the bruins who qualified for State. One of the qualifying projects was on the Columbine Massacre, which is an infamous school shooting that occurred in 1999 in Columbine, Colorado. Another was on the Lavender Scare, which is the 1950 panic many felt regarding if there were homosexual individuals in the United States Government.
This April 16th, they will be going to the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum in Bismarck to compete at State. Well done, fellow Bruins!
