Beauty and the Beast
January 5, 2023
The play had similarities between both the cartoon and the live action movie of Beauty and the Beast as well as their own creative additions such as new lines and songs. Another difference they had that was creative was instead of Belle saving her dad from the town she saved him from being lost in the forest. They had an amazing transition from the witch to her becoming the enchantress. The costumes were well done and the vocals and movements were good. It was very easy to understand what they were saying. The cast also got along great which helped with the play. I interviewed 6 members of the cast. Every one said the cast gets along great.
The narrator was played by Lauren Reeder.
She said that it only took her 2 weeks to perfect her lines since it was not long. Her favorite part is a tie between “Prologue” and “Be Our Guest.” When asked what part she would have liked if she didn’t get narrator, she said she was just hoping to get a part. Her favorite cast member was David, who played Lumiere.
Mrs. Potts was played by Ruby Leonhart.
She took a couple of weeks to learn her role since some parts were difficult. Her favorite scene was the “Beauty and the Beast” song. She would have done tech if she didn’t get Mrs. Potts. Her favorite cast member was also David.
Gaston was played by Regan Jorgenson.
He took only 3 weeks to learn and said his part was rather easy to learn. His favorite song was his own, “Gaston.” His favorite character he said was the food and he would have been Cosworth if he didn’t get Gaston.
Belle was played by Ava Grams.
She said she took up until the 12/7/2022 to memorize her part 100% and her favorite part was telling off Gaston when he asked her to marry him. She said she would have wanted to be Babette if she didn’t get Belle. Her favorite character was Cogsworth and her favorite cast member was Greta, who played Babette.
The Beast was played by Sam Kain.
He took 4 weeks to learn his part and said it was slightly difficult to play the Beast since the Beast is angry and mean and he isn’t. His favorite part was letting Belle go and would have wanted Cogsworth or Gaston if he didn’t get the Beast. His favorite cast member was Ava, who played Belle.
The director was Maximus Nielson.
He said it took everyone 10 weeks to learn since that’s the time they are given. 5 staff work on the play, 3 work at South. The easiest scene for everyone to learn were the scenes Gaston and Belle. The hardest for them to learn was “Something There” in the library. 34 people were in the cast and he thinks for a first performance and with costume changes it went as well as it could go.
