For most students, homecoming is their best memory from high school. From the lively energy, fun activities, football game and dance, and most importantly, the dress-up days, it’s an unforgettable part of the school year. In past years, the South High homecoming dress-up days have been very well-liked and successful for days such as PJ day, decade day, neon and career day. Every year, the dress-up days are decided by the student council run by Mrs. Houglum and sent out before homecoming week. When this year’s homecoming dress-up days were finally put up, some students began complaining about the options given. Monday was Taylor Swift Era day, where students were encouraged to dress up as their favorite Taylor Swift album or “era.” Twin day was Tuesday, Wednesday was Barbie vs. Ken, and on Thursday, the theme was BBQ dad vs. soccer mom. Friday is always “Dress with Bruin Pride”, so there were no complaints there, but there were many complaints for the other four days. Taylor Swift Era day was one day that got the most complaints, as many Bruins from freshmen through seniors dislike Taylor Swift. Along with hate for Monday’s dress-up day, Barbie vs. Ken, and BBQ dad vs. soccer mom also received criticism as some decided they were unimportant or dumb. However, though some weren’t the biggest fan of these two, they ended up being the most popular. In the end, most students participated in and enjoyed the dress-up days, but they will always have complaints no matter the year.
