Brady Sivers, Evan Griffin, and Devyn Iglesias-Fuller were named the 2023 National Merit Semi-Finalists for South High. The National Merit Scholarship is an academic competition brought to high schoolers to be recognized by colleges and other networks. To have the opportunity to be a National Merit Scholar, a student first must take the PSAT. Every year, the qualifying PSAT score depends on each state, but millions of students take it and among 16,000 are qualified to be a national scholar. Next, students must earn a certain score on the SAT or ACT to confirm that the PSAT score wasn’t a fluke. The next step to be a finalist is an application to the National Merit Scholarship Program that has a personal essay and letter recommendations from school staff. If you want to win the scholarship, you should work hard, take challenging courses, and take the PSAT in your junior year. Congratulations to Sivers, Griffin, and Iglesias-Fuller.
