The game Resident Evil 4 starts with the character Leon being escorted to rural Spain to search for Ashley Grahm, the president’s daughter who was kidnapped. His escorts stop the car and one goes into the woods to use the bathroom. Leon is sent to go find the escort and comes across his body. Later, he finds a village where people are burning the other escort. He has to survive the mob that comes after him. He winds up finding Ashley after he gets infected with a parasite called Las Plagas, which takes over the victim’s body. She is infected too, but neither know.

People keep capturing Ashley. Leon finally gets to the castle where she is held and finds out that the person who kidnapped and brought Ashley to Spain was his mentor, Jack, who is also infected. He defeats Jack and is one step closer to saving Ashley and getting her back home.  The man that keeps having people capture Ashley is named Lord Saddler, the leader of a cult. Leon has to team up with Ada again and she helps him save Ashley and take down Saddler. Ashley and Leon go home but Ada leaves with some amber containing the parasite. She finds out what her boss wants with the amber and changes course.
